Facility Updates
- Mount Vernon Rec Center:
- Mount Vernon Rec Center will be closed for the rest of today, June 13.
- The fitness center is experiencing fluctuating temperatures due to a mechanical issue. A repair part has been ordered. Please be prepared with layers and stay hydrated during your workout. Thank you for your understanding!
- Frying Pan Farm Park:
- Country store and wagon rides will remain closed on Saturday, June 13.
- The carousel sustained irreparable damage during the January 2026 winter storm and will be removed from the park.
- Idylwood Park: Beginning June 13, the tennis and basketball courts will be closed for power washing, crack repair and recoloring. The courts are expected to reopen by early July.
- Kingstowne Farmers Market: Due to the National Weather Service forecast, the Kingstowne Farmers Market is canceled this Friday, June 12. A heat advisory is in effect, with the potential for severe afternoon thunderstorms during market hours. We’re disappointed to miss this week’s market, but the comfort and safety of our vendors and customers is very important to us. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to welcoming you back next week.
- Franconia Park:
- Country store and wagon rides will remain closed today, June 10.
- The bridge along Chessie’s Trail is temporarily closed due to damage sustained by a fallen tree. Updates will be provided as they become available.
- Sully Historic Site:
- Outdoor bathrooms are closed for maintenance. The bathrooms at the Visitor Center will be available Thursday through Sunday from 11a.m. to 4p.m.
- Restoration and repair work is underway on Sully’s historic outbuildings. While the site remains open, access to certain buildings may be limited at times. For the most up-to-date information, please call 703-437-1794.
- Silas Burke Park: Trail paving work will begin June 5 and is expected to be completed by June 8, weather permitting. The park will remain open, but visitors are asked to stay off the trail while crews complete the project.
- Byron Avenue Park: A fallen tree has caused damage at Byron Avenue Park, resulting in a power outage and loss of aerial lighting. Damage is currently being assessed, and power will be restored as soon as possible.
- Eakin Mantua Park: Paving work is scheduled for June 9–10 and will impact the playground, basketball court, tennis court, and baseball field. During construction, portions of the park may be intermittently closed. Use the Park Amenity Locator to identify alternative parks to visit during construction.
- Difficult Run Stream Valley Park: A section of the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail that runs under the Dulles Toll Road will be closed beginning May 21 until Fall 2026 while repairs are made to the Dulles Toll Road Bridge. Please follow all posted signage and utilize the Trail Buddy App to find alternative routes to explore during the closure. A map of the trail closure is available here.
- Providence Rec Center: Racquetball courts will be closed until further notice as maintenance is conducted.
- Belle Haven Park: The park will be closed from May 4, 2026 through May 2028 during construction for a wastewater upgrade project.
- Stoneybrooke Park: Beginning Wednesday, April 22, the tennis and basketball courts will undergo renovation. The project includes milling approximately 8 inches of asphalt, adding gravel for improved drainage, and installing 4 inches of new asphalt, as well as new fencing, goals, posts and acrylic surfacing. Parking will be limited during construction. Weather permitting, construction is expected to be completed in early July. - Pohick Stream Valley Park: Construction continues on the Pohick Interceptor Rehabilitation Project in Pohick Stream Valley Park. The project is expected to be complete this summer. Learn more.
- Green Spring Gardens: The ADA lift at the Historic House is currently out of operation until further notice. ADA access remains available to the lower room of the Historic House.
- Willow Woods Park: The Willow Woods Park bridge behind Canterbury Woods Elementary is closed until further notice. The trail bridge on the asphalt trail in Willow Woods Park connecting the end of Rosedale Lane and the school campus was severely damage by a fallen tree. Alternate pedestrian access from Rosedale Lane to Canterbury Woods Elementary School is along Ponderosa Drive and Nero Street sidewalks.
- Glenn Hills Park: The Playground at Glenn Hills Park is closed until further notice.
- Scott’s Run Nature Preserve: Scott's Run is closed for an urgent sewer project to renew and rehabilitate the Scott's Run Siphon wastewater facility. The work is expected to be completed by July 4, depending on weather conditions. Updates regarding project progress and any changes to the timeline will be available online at the Scott’s Run Siphon Rehabilitation project webpage.
- Bull Neck Stream Valley: A section of the trail in the Bull Neck Stream Valley, located behind 1223 and 1225 Duchess Drive, Mclean, VA 22102, has been closed due to safety concerns. We welcome you to use the Trail Buddy app to identify an alternative route.
- Pimmit Hill Park: The bridge at Pimmit Hill Park at the end of Storm Dr. will remain closed until further notice for repairs.
- Pimmit Run: Construction for the Pimmit Run Trunk Sewer Improvement project is set to begin on or shortly after Oct. 20, 2025, and is anticipated to be completed by Sept. 5, 2026. This critical infrastructure upgrade will enhance sanitary sewer capacity to support future development. Portions of the trails/walking paths along Pimmit Run will be closed for public use during construction as required to maintain the safety of the work area. Please follow all posted signage.
