When you need to get from Point A to Point B with more than two feet but less than four wheels, borrowing a bicycle with Capital Bikeshare might be your answer! Capital Bikeshare is a regional bicycle transit system jointly owned by Fairfax County, Arlington County, City of Alexandria, City of Fairfax, City of Falls Church, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County and the District of Columbia.
Fairfax County’s Capital Bikeshare began in 2016 with 18 stations in the Reston and Tysons communities. Today, Fairfax County has 96 Capital Bikeshare stations located across county – including a Capital Bikeshare station at every Metrorail station in Fairfax County. The county’s Capital Bikeshare fleet now numbers more than 500 bikes – over 200 of which are electric bikes!

The Capital Bikeshare for All program provides discounted memberships for residents who qualify for state or federal assistance programs. For just $5 per year, qualified members receive:
Unlimited bike rides under 60 minutes
Discounted rates on e-bikes
A $40 monthly ride credit to help cover ride time for per-minute e-bike rates, per-minute rates for classic bike rides longer than 60 minutes, and out-of-station parking charges for e-bikes.
Capital Bikeshare also offers Corporate Programs, allowing businesses subsidize Capital Bikeshare annual memberships for their employees - providing an easy, convenient and sustainable option for getting around the Washington, D.C. Metro area.

FCDOT held a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, to discuss a proposal to add up to 17 new Capital Bikeshare stations along the I-66 corridor between Fairfax/Fair Lakes and Dunn Loring in the Providence, Braddock and Springfield Districts.
June 2026: Fairfax County is expanding its Capital Bikeshare network adding 27 new station locations in Annandale, Bailey's Crossroads and Seven Corners. This expansion also included the completion of the proposed installations in the Mount Vernon District included in the proposal from August 2025.

August 2025: Expansion of Capital Bikeshare to locations at the Huntington (Mount Vernon District) and Innovation Center (Dranesville and Hunter Mill Districts) Metro Stations and the surrounding areas.
