NCS has teamed with The Mather, a new residential building for older adults in Tysons, to open Arbor Row Center for ages 50 and older.
NCS leaders participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Arbor Row, 7927B Westpark Dr. Arbor Row is available to residents of the The Mather, as well as community members. NCS is pleased to offer its instructors and programming for this space.
Programming suggestions came from community meetings held earlier this year. Among this month's free offerings: exercise (mat Pilates, chair yoga, dance workshop, Chi Kung), tech workshops (learn about wearables, learn what your iPhone can do), wellness (sound bath meditation, aromatherapy) and more (creative aging, bridge, mah jongg).
"We are proud to collaborate with The Mather to bring our exciting programming and expert instructors," NCS Director Lloyd Tucker said. "This is a win-win for all. We hope the Arbor Row Center is a place where participants find value in creating social connections and keeping an active mind and body."
Providence Supervisor Dalia A. Palchik said Arbor Row is an example of what the community can do together, and she is looking forward to additional opportunities for older adults.

Fairfax County's Department of Neighborhood and Community Services is holding Open Hire events in Fairfax, Annandale, Alexandria and Reston - as well as virtually – in May. Interested job applicants can interview on the spot at locations around Fairfax County or virtually.
NCS is hiring for year-round, part-time jobs in child care and recreation, as well as summer camp counselor positions. All summer positions are eligible for up to $1,000 in hiring and retention bonuses.

Therapeutic Recreation Camp (Year-round and summer positions)
There will be a series of virtual, interactive open hire & information sessions on Zoom. Session participants will be able to get more information. participate in a question-and-answer period, and interview for a position with a staff member. Therapeutic Recreation provides services for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) is proud to recognize Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month in April.
The Board of Supervisors has proclaimed April 2025 Autism Acceptance Month and Autism Awareness Day (April 2). The proclamation was introduced by Board Chair Jeffrey C. McKay and Springfield Supervisor Pat Herrity, and accepted at the Supervisors’ April 22, 2025, meeting.
NCS’ programs and services aspire to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all, by offering opportunities to everyone while providing supports and opportunities that acknowledge differences.
“NCS has a variety of opportunities for people of all ages and abilities,” said Susan Sigler, director of NCS' Inclusive Support Services division. “April is a great opportunity to come together and raise awareness, foster acceptance, and create a community where autistic people are supported, understood, and empowered.”
NCS’ Infant and Toddler Connection (ITC) is a vital resource for families in Fairfax County and Falls Church for evaluation and early intervention. ITC provides those services for infants and toddlers up to age 3 who may have a developmental delay or a diagnosis that may lead to developmental delays and differences, including autism.
Other resources providing services for people with autism include:
Sensory Rooms provide a person-centered, safe, and nurturing environment designed to provide a calm and relaxing environment that promotes stress-free engagement for individuals of all ages with varying sensory systems. Sensory Rooms are located at Sully, Lorton and Providence Community Centers.
Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS) offers a variety of leisure and recreation programs specifically for individuals of varying abilities, including autism spectrum disorders, from age 2 to adult. The programs focus on building leisure skills, exploring leisure interests, socializing, and most importantly having fun in a safe, low-ratio and supportive environment. Family Autism Night is just one program offered by TRS.
School Age Child Care (SACC) offers out-of-school-time programming for elementary age students in a welcoming, inclusive environment. SACC is open to all children with a variety of needs, interests and abilities.
