Institute for Early Learning (IFEL) - Family Child Care Business Workshops

IFEL children

The Institute for Early Learning (IFEL) offers Family Child Care Business Workshops (virtual and in-person) to family child care providers just beginning their businesses as well as established providers looking for more training opportunities. These training hours are creditable toward Fairfax County Home Child Care Permit requirements. Call 703-324-8100, TTY 711 for more information.

JULY 2024

(2.0 hours)

In this 6-hour course participants will focus on the importance of intentional teaching and providing responsive care to multi-age groups of children in their homes. Family child care educators will increase their knowledge of child development and how to implement daily learning experiences that are meaningful and beneficial for children. In addition, participants will learn how children benefit from planned activities that are responsive to children’s interests and include age-appropriate materials and a child-friendly environment. This is a three-part series. You must attend all three sessions to receive a certificate.

In this four-hour course participants will focus on programming, environment, and social interactions for school-age children.  Through play, children learn about the world, themselves, and develop skills for life-long success. The environment provides a safe space for them to relax, the ability to explore and create and a place for a child's creativity. Social interactions allow children to build relationships, create a sense of belonging and solve problems.  Join us and explore your childcare center through the eyes of a school ager. Providers must attend both sessions to receive training credit.

In the SIDS and Shaken Baby Syndrome webinar, child care providers will focus on understanding SIDS, providing safe sleep environments and having policies that support healthy sleep environments.  We will also review strategies to support caregivers and families to recognize signs and symptoms of shaken baby syndrome, how to manage stress and prevent abuse.
