Current Topics

Recount of November 5, 2024 - General Election for Member Town Council, Town of Herndon

On December 6, 2024, pursuant to Fairfax County Circuit Court order and in compliance with §24.2-Ch.8 of the Code of Virginia, the Fairfax County Office of Elections completed a recount of the November 5, 2024 Member Town Council, Town of Herndon race. The results of the recount are now available for review. The recount resulted in no change to the six winners of the Member Town Council, Town of Herndon race.

Completion of Risk-limited Audit for the Nov. 5, 2024, General Election

On November 20, Fairfax County participated in the statewide risk-limiting audit (RLA) of the 2024 U.S. Senate contest. The Virginia Department of Elections has announced that the RLA is complete and has, "confirmed with over 97% confidence that Virginia voting machines accurately reported the winner of this contest."

We understand that a letter from the Office of Elections asking for citizenship confirmation might raise concerns, especially in these times when misinformation can spread easily. This is an authorized request from the Office of Elections and an important part of the voter registration process. The letter you received is a standard procedure required by Virginia state law. It’s sent to voters when the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) reports citizenship status was not confirmed on a form. This process helps ensure that only eligible citizens are registered to vote. The letter asks you to complete and return the Affirmation of Citizenship form to maintain your voter registration. What to know: Verification Process: The DMV provides a list to the Virginia Department of Elections identifying those who didn’t confirm citizenship status. The Department of Elections uses this information to ensure the integrity of voter rolls. Action Required: To avoid having your registration canceled, please complete and return the form within 14 days, using the provided envelope. Confidentiality: All information from the DMV is confidential and used only for verifying voter eligibility.
