Virginia Treasury Unclaimed Property Program at Government Center on October 3
On October 3rd, from 9 AM to 3 PM, the Treasury team will have a table set up in the lobby of the Fairfax County Government Center, ready to assist with searching for and starting claims for any unclaimed property you may have with the Virginia Treasury. Don't miss this convenient opportunity! Be sure to bring your ID for verification purposes.
The Virginia Treasury Unclaimed Property Program returns money, stocks, bonds, dividends, utility deposits, insurance proceeds, tangible property and more to Virginia residents. Whether you've moved, lost a check, or forgotten about a bank account, finding money is easy and free.

Pay Taxes & Fees
You can pay online for Real Estate tax, Vehicle ("Car") tax and registration fees, Business Tangible Property, Dog Licenses, and Parking Tickets. You can also pay these and other taxes by mail, in-person, or by phone. Pay on time to avoid penalties.
Real Estate Assessments & Taxes
Real estate assessments are released in February and notices are mailed to every property in the county. Once tax rates are set by the Board of Supervisors, taxes are calculated and bills are generated. Real estate taxes are paid in two installments due July 28 and December 5. For most, bills are sent electronically to your mortgage company.
Vehicle Taxes & Fees
Values for most vehicles are determined using a recognized pricing guide or, for new models, as a percentage of the MSRP. Once tax rates are set by the Board of Supervisors, taxes are calculated. Bills are mailed throughout the summer and are due October 5. For vehicles purchased or moved into the county on or after July 1, bills are mailed in January the following year and are due February 15. Vehicle registration fees are billed at the same time as the tax.
Business Taxes
Businesses pay taxes based on the value of their tangible properties such as furniture and fixtures, machinery and tools, and computer equipment. Business vehicles are taxed like other vehicles. In addition, most businesses must obtain a business license. Depending on the type of business, other taxes may apply.
Tax Relief & Exemptions
The county offers a Tax Relief program for seniors and people with disabilities. There are also exemptions for qualifying veterans, first responders, and their spouses, for diplomats, for tax exempt entities, and for properties with certain modifications.
Other Taxes & Fees
You can also register your dog and purchase the dog license and pay parking tickets and other delinquent non-tax fees with DTA. As a consumer, you may pay additional taxes that are not administered by DTA. You can see a list of those taxes and rates here.
