The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is Fairfax County’s only open-access, municipal shelter. With 4,000 to 5,000 companion animals coming through our doors each year, the shelter provides a safe place for dogs, cats and small animals to stay while they wait for loving homes. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care to the pets we tend to while also working to increase pet retention and access to pet services. We have a live release rate of over 90%, and are proud to be part of a compassionate community of fosters, volunteers and Fairfax County residents.
