The National Register of Historic Places was established in 1966. It is managed by the National Park Service. It is the official list of structures, sites, objects, and districts that embody the historical and cultural foundations of the nation. The Virginia Landmarks Register was also established in 1966 and is managed by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. It serves as the state’s official list of properties important to Virginia’s history. Over the past 50 years, 59 properties and districts located in Fairfax County have been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
