Our Stormwater Management Division provides experiential learning programs and teaching tools to audiences ranging from K-12. All programs are taught by ecologists and are free of charge.
Enhance your students’ learning with hands-on activities about our most important resource - WATER! We offer a variety of lessons intended for grades K-12. Students will learn about the importance of clean water. We supply all materials, instructions and training if needed. Supplies will be dropped off at your school. We offer classroom support by Zoom learning with a scientist, engineer or one of our operational staff. Visit the different activities and sign up for which one you would like to have in your classroom.
How to Report Illegal Dumping into Stormdrains and Streams
Never dump oil, paint, or any substance into a stormdrain or stream. Report violations: call 703-324-5500, TTY 711 or email Stormwater Planning Division. Report dumping of hazardous material to 911.

A Field Guide to Fairfax County’s Plants and Wildlife
A Field Guide to Fairfax County's Plants and Wildlife helps young readers identify common species found in our neighborhoods, schoolyards, parks, and other outdoor areas. The guide includes fun activities for exploring how organisms fit into the ecosystem and generate awareness of how humans affect the environment. The Fairfax County Park Authority's Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) is a program that meets the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement education requirements for elementary school students.
• No buses needed! We come to you.
• MWEE supports multiple 4th and 5th grade Virginia Standards of Learning.
• MWEE is schoolyard project-based learning.
• MWEE includes a consultation with a park naturalist to assist with an action project.
