Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) officials would like to remind Fairfax Connector passengers that they must wear a mask or a face covering, as federally mandated, when taking public transit or visiting a transit hub in Fairfax County. This safety measure, which has been in place on board Fairfax Connector buses since May 2020, aims to protect passengers and bus operators during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This requirement also aligns with the January 29, 2021, federal order issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Due to Presidential Inauguration activities on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, the following detours will be in place on several Fairfax Connector bus routes. Bus service to the Pentagon Transit Center but will be rerouted to Pentagon City: 306, 393, 394, 395, 396, 599, 698.
Effective immediately, Fairfax Connector Routes 697 (Stringfellow Road Park and Ride - Downton D.C.) and 699 (the Government Center - Foggy Bottom) will operate as free shuttles to the Vienna Metrorail Station through Wed., Jan 20, 2021. Passengers should take the Metrorail Orange Line to complete their trip into Washington, D.C.
Due to road closures for the Inauguration, Route 697 will not operate into DC starting immediately through Friday, January 22, 2021. Passengers should use shuttle between Stringfellow Park & Ride and Vienna Metro South. Use alternative Routes 631, 632, and 634. Thanks for your patience.

Beginning August,19, 2020, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will begin work to reconstruct and replace the escalator banks and escalators at the south entrance of the Huntington Metrorail Station. The construction is being expedited to impact the least number of customers while the Metrorail ridership is low due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Construction activities are scheduled to last until mid-January 2021.

Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) announces that beginning Tuesday, March 24, 2020, Fairfax Connector customers will be required to enter and exit the bus using the rear doors. This does not apply to customers who need to use a wheelchair ramp. Fare collection on buses will also be temporarily suspended due to the location of fareboxes and SmarTrip equipment at the front entrance of buses.

Beginning this Memorial Day, the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMATA) will be closing three Metrorail Orange Line stations for full platform reconstruction and major station improvements. To expedite construction and minimize customer inconvenience, Vienna, Dunn Loring and East Falls Church Metrorail stations will be closed from Saturday, May 23, 2020, through Monday, Sept. 7, 2020, to allow for around-the-clock work. The station closures are part of WMATA's three-year Platform Improvement Project that will completely reconstruct the outdoor platforms at 20 Metrorail stations, making them safer and more accessible for customers with disabilities, while also addressing safety concerns and longstanding structural issues.

Fairfax Connector bus service to and from the Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride will return to normal on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, after the partial completion of the bus loop construction.Fairfax Connector and Metrobus passengers who make travel connections at Herndon-Monroe will board buses at the bus loop once again starting Jan. 6, instead of the temporary stops along Sunrise Valley Drive used during construction. Although bus service returns to the bus loop, for the time being, pickup and drop-off locations for ridesharing, including carpooling and slugging will continue on Level 1 of the new garage. Beginning Thursday, October 31, 2019, Patriot Development Corporation, on behalf of Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, will begin construction of a new gravity sewer at the McLean Metrorail Station Kiss & Ride. Construction is expected to last until March 2020.
Work continues on the Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride facilities in preparation for the new Herndon Metrorail Station and the arrival of Silver Line Phase 2 service. With construction of the new garage nearing completion, work now begins on the existing parking garage. Effective on or around April 8, 2019, the existing parking garage will close for a period of months in order to make necessary improvements. All parking will be relocated to the new garage on Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Due to the installation of a new stair tower, the Herndon-Monroe bus loop will be closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays.
