The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board, also known as the CSB, is committed to making a difference in our community. We have been serving the Fairfax area for more than fifty years, and are dedicated to providing the best possible treatment and services to the residents of Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church.

We are here for you and your family.

We help youth and adult residents who have:

  • Mental illness
  • Substance use disorders (sometimes called addiction), and/or
  • Developmental disabilities.

Taking steps towards recovery and healing requires support for you and your family. CSB staff and contracted service providers are here to help you.

What Happens When You Come to CSB Entry & Referral Services

Youth and adults can come in person, without a prior appointment, to be screened for services at the CSB's Entry and Referral Services at our Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health (8221 Willow Oaks Corporate Parkway, Fairfax), Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If possible, before coming to the Bulova Center, please call ahead to Emergency Services 703-383-8500 for wait time information.

Here’s what will happen next.

  • You will check in at the front desk, and staff will ask you to sign in using our kiosk. The kiosk is available in English and Spanish.
  • If you need any language assistance, please let staff know so arrangements can be made for a professional phone or video interpreter if needed.
  • You will be asked to complete paperwork and provide some basic personal registration information and a brief reason for your visit to help us better understand your main concerns and the symptoms you are seeking help with.
    • Your paperwork will include the GAIN-SS (Global Appraisal of Individual Needs-Short Screener), a brief instrument designed to quickly and accurately screen adults and adolescents for behavioral health problems, available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Korean and Vietnamese.
  • You will be asked to wait in the waiting area while your information is being reviewed by CSB staff.
  • After your information has been reviewed you will then be invited to meet with CSB staff who will ask more questions about the individual's symptoms and history.
  • The CSB staff will type the information into an electronic health record.
  • The electronic health record includes the individual's personal information and will not be shared without your permission. More information about federal confidentiality and where exceptions are made for safety and court ordered involvement will be discussed further with a clinician.
  • Staff will talk with you about whether the you or the individual you’re helping to get services appear to be eligible for CSB services, or whether there might be another resource in the community that would be more helpful and appropriate.
  • If you or the individual seeking services do not appear to meet CSB admission criteria, you will be given a list of other service providers and resources in the community. If you are unable to get help from these listed providers, please contact the CSB at 703-383-8500 and we will try to help you find other resources.
  • If you or the individual seeking services appears eligible for CSB services the clinician will complete a more in-depth mental health and/or substance use assessment, which may take up to 90 minutes to complete.
  • After the assessment, the individual will receive an explanation of diagnosis and treatment recommendations which could include various services, depending on the level of care you require.
  • If you decide to pursue the CSB services recommended, the clinician will explain the next steps on starting your journey toward healing and recovery.

If you have any further questions about the process, admission criteria, and what to bring to your first visit, please explore our website, or call our Entry and Referral office at 703-383-8500.

Remember, we’re here to help you and your family.
