For the status of public facilities implementation, see the Tysons Tracker Public Facilities page.
Having sufficient public facilities is a critical component in serving the needs of the population and employment base of Tysons. With an estimated growth of 100,000 residents and 200,000 jobs by 2050, additional public facilities will be needed to accommodate future growth including transportation infrastructure, expansions to existing water, wastewater, stormwater, and electrical systems, parks and recreational facilities, new elementary schools, fire stations, a satellite police station, and a community library.
Phasing of Public Facilities
To achieve the quality of life envisioned for Tysons, it is important that the provision of public facilities keep pace with the phasing of development. The Plan calls for developers to identify the land and/or building space needed for public facilities commensurate with development implementation. The Plan also calls for developers to cooperate in providing public facilities within their districts or subdistricts, such as the grid of streets, the system of parks and open space, and stormwater management facilities.
Urban Models
Finding sufficient and appropriate space for public facilities will require collaboration and creativity between Tysons landowners, the County, and other stakeholders. Wherever possible, civic uses will be co-located, such as a library with an arts center or a fire station with a police station, and incorporated into mixed-use buildings as in the below examples in Tysons.
