Shelter is temporary safe housing available to victims of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking that offers a secure environment while victims figure out next steps and make longer-term living arrangements as they recover from trauma.
Artemis House and Bethany House are the two shelter options in Fairfax County. All shelters are in undisclosed locations, meaning the addresses of the shelters are not given out to the public.
Artemis House
Artemis House is a 24-hour emergency shelter for victims in danger of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. To determine whether a victim is eligible for shelter, call Artemis House at 703-435-4940 and a staff member will complete an assessment over the phone. Artemis House accepts adults of all genders and their children. Victims must be Fairfax County residents.
Bethany House
Bethany House is a shelter for victims fleeing domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking. To determine whether a victim is eligible for shelter, call Bethany House between 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at 703-658-9500 and a staff member will complete an assessment over the phone. At the current time, Bethany House serves only women, including trans women. Victims do not have to be Fairfax County residents.
Residents at Artemis House and Bethany House have access to case management services and counseling. These services are voluntary. Case management can help residents access childcare, immigration assistance, victim advocacy, legal assistance, and employment resources, as well as help develop a housing plan for after you exit. In addition, residents receive assistance with transportation and are provided emergency food and clothing.
At Artemis House, parents/guardians have the option of sending their children to their current school or relocating them to the local public school.
At this time, Bethany House does not serve children.
Neither Artemis House nor Bethany House allows pets, but temporary arrangements, including foster care options, may be made through the Fairfax County Animal Shelter's PetHaven Program. Both shelters accept clients with service animals.
