Vote by Mail

Absentee Voting for College Students

Attention all college students who call Fairfax County home! we have just published a video on YouTube that tells you what you need to know so you can vote early in the Nov. 5, 2024 presidential election.


View your voter information to make sure it is correct.

If you are not registered to vote, apply on the Citizen's Portal.

 

Online Application

  1. Apply for your vote-by-mail ballot
     
  2. You will need:
    • Social Security Number
    • Virginia Driver's License or a Virgnia DMV-issued ID number

 

Paper Application

  1. Download, print, and complete--including your handwritten signature--a vote-by-mail application

    -- OR --

  2. Pick up a preprinted paper application at:

 

Be sure your application is accepted!
  • Parts 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8 of the paper application must be completed fully or your application will be denied, and you will need to submit a new one
  • Virginia law requires that you include the last four digits of your social security number and sign the form by hand

When To Expect Your Ballot

  • Ballots are mailed to voters beginning 45 days before the election
  • After the mailing period begins, ballots are mailed within three business days of applications being approved
  • Once a ballot is mailed, its delivery time is dependent on the U.S. Postal Service

1. By mail or commercial delivery service

  • Must be postmarked on or before election day
  • Must arrive in the Office of Elections by noon, on Friday following the election

1. Single Election Change

Use the Permanent Absentee Voter Single Election Change Form to:

  • Change where your ballot is sent for one election
  • Add or change the political party primary ballot selection for one election or permanently
