Some of the topics that we can speak on include, but are not limited to:

• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): Protections provided by the ADA prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities in the areas of employment, access to government programs and services, public transportation and accessible public facilities, and how to enforce them.
• Universal Design: Making modifications to your home using universal design and assistive technology will allow you to stay at home as your living situation changes in an environment where everyone can thrive without compromising the value, beauty, or functionality of your home.
• Fair Housing Act: Protecting your rights as a person with a disability will ensure that you have equal access to applicable housing providers including apartments, condominiums, and homeowners associations.
• Transportation Options:  Learn about the different transportation options that enable older adults and people with disabilities to navigate the community independently
• Disability Etiquette: How to communicate with and about people with a variety of disabilities using dignity and respect
• Services for People with Disabilities:  Provide you with an  overview of all the Fairfax County services that are available for people with disabilities, and how you or your loved one with a disability can easily access them
• Protecting Your Civil Rights through enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act and other laws that ensure equal access and opportunity for people with disabilities.  Presentation includes resources and strategies you can use if you believe you’ve been discriminated against because of your disability
• Community Integration Is a Civil Right:  Learn about the federal protections that ensure people with disabilities receive the services they need in their own homes or communities, rather than in a nursing facility or institution, and what you can do to live in the community based setting of your choice
•  Offering Services to the People with Disabilities:  Your responsibilities in a variety of settings like public and private organizations, businesses, restaurants or multifamily housing properties
