Exercise & Fitness

AerobicsWe want you to take exercise personally. So our wide variety of program choices lets you pick the best way FOR YOU to increase your personal fitness level. Whether it’s yoga or kickboxing, aerobics or Pilates, there’s an option that fits your style, your interest and your ability. And now, at Providence RECenter, the Pilates program has expanded to include small group lessons on special reformer equipment. If you’ve taken Pilates mat classes, you’ll want to try the new reformer version – there’s nothing quite like it! But whatever you choose, with so many alternatives, there’s no better time than now to get moving!

Exercise and fitness instructors have different teaching styles, and some classes combine various fitness regimens. Men and women are welcome at all classes. As a general rule, Step Aerobics is not recommended for those who have joint problems or are taking their first aerobics class. And please remember that it’s best to check with your doctor before beginning an exercise program.

For sports activities, tournaments and races, see the Sports and Leagues section. For water exercise programs, see Aquatics.

SpinningWhy YOU should try a Group Fitness Class:

Exercise in a group setting is fun! The social interaction will give you that extra motivational push to keep you going.
If you get bored exercising alone, group synergy can help keep boredom at bay. Registering or purchasing a pass for a class is a commitment to exercise. You write it into your calendar and plan on it. It’s an appointment with you . . . for yourself.

Sure, you know that exercise is good for your health. But what you may not realize is that even small amounts of exercise – like an hour or two a week in an aerobics class -- can produce health-related benefits.

XYO – eXercise Your Options!
With a RECenter membership pass you have the opportunity to participate in a variety of land group exercise classes offered as part of the XYOeXercise Your Options! program. From cycling to step, rowing to high-low aerobics, XYO offers the best of all worlds.

The class descriptions are a guide for choosing the class that suits you and your schedule. Class content may vary due to instructor choreography and teaching techniques.

*Please Note: A physician’s approval is recommended prior to beginning an exercise program.
