George Lovelace Selected for Park Authority Board Vacancy

George E. Lovelace was sworn into office Wednesday, February 11, 2004, beginning his tenure as a member of the Fairfax County Park Authority Board. Lovelace was named to this position by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors late last month and will serve as an at-large member of the Park Board. His appointment is for four years.
Lovelace is a well-known local elected official, community activist and current member of the Vienna Town Council. He has served as a Council member for over 15 years. Lovelace was elected to a term in the Virginia House of Delegates in 1996 and served with distinction. In 1976, he co-founded the Malcolm-Windover Heights Civic Association and served as president until 1980. He subsequently served in appointed positions as chairman of the Vienna Planning Commission and a member of the Virginia Regional Planning Commission. Presently, he serves on the Fairfax County Small Business Commission.
Lovelace is a graduate of Lincoln University where he majored in physics. He also served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the Army, as well as postings in Europe and Turkey over the span of his 20-year military career. He attended the Command and General Staff College, and obtained a Masters of Science degree in telecommunications management from George Washington University. He is currently an IT consultant and has held management positions with CSC, Boeing, EDS and the GSA.
The Fairfax County Park Authority Board is appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. These 12 appointees are comprised of one representative from each of the nine magisterial districts, plus three at-large members. The board sets policy and establishes priorities for the park agency. The board holds public meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Herrity Building located at 12055 Government Center Parkway.
