On May 10, 2022, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously endorsed the Safe Streets for All Program Recommendations, a proposed comprehensive initiative to address systemic transportation safety issues for people walking, biking and using other forms of active transportation. The program recommendations propose a framework of education, policy, planning, and programmatic and design strategies that facilitate collaboration between government and community stakeholders to improve active transportation safety and comfort.
Please see also the ActiveFairfax Transportation Plan, a separate effort that seeks to combine the Bicycle Master Plan and the Countywide Trails Plan into one comprehensive network map.
FCDOT staff relied on public input to shape this draft program plan. In Spring 2021, community members provided feedback through an online survey and interactive maps, at virtual community meetings, and in-person at food distribution events.
