Free Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms save lives! Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. Fairfax County residents can get FREE battery-powered smoke alarms by contacting their local Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) station or by submitting the completed form below. After your request is received, a member of the Fairfax County FRD will contact you to schedule a visit to your house or apartment, to check your current alarms, and install new ones. For more information about our smoke alarm program, please call us at 703-246-3801 or email us at fire.smokealarms@fairfaxcounty.gov.

**Please note that fire department personnel are not able to repair or replace hard-wired smoke alarms. A certified electrician will be needed for hard-wired smoke alarms.
