About Supervisor Bierman
James N. Bierman, Jr. ('Jimmy') was born and raised in McLean. His love for the Dranesville community started at an early age when he was first learning to swim at Spring Hill Rec Center and checking out books at the Dolley Madison Library. After earning degrees at Williams College and Stanford Law School, Supervisor Bierman knew he wanted to return to McLean to raise his own family and ensure they were afforded the same opportunities. Supervisor Bierman lives with his wife, two children, and two rescue dogs in McLean.

Data Center Zoning Ordinance Amendment
On March 19, 2024, the Board of Supervisors directed staff to prepare a Zoning Ordinance amendment to strengthen the current provisions for data centers. Public hearings were held before the Planning Commission on June 5, 2024 and before the Board of Supervisors on July 16, 2024. However, due to a regulatory oversight related to new public hearing advertisement requirements effective July 1, 2024 the public hearing on data centers will be reheard on September 10. All testimony given at the July 16 public hearing will be kept in the record and those speakers do not need to sign up to speak again, although they may choose to do so.
Visit the Department of Planning and Development website for additional information about the proposed amendment and upcoming meetings.
Downtown McLean Development
The Board of Supervisors adopted the Plan Amendment for the McLean Community Business Center (CBC) in June 2021. The McLean CBC is an approximately 230-acre area centered around the intersection of Chain Bridge Road and Old Dominion Drive and is coterminous with the McLean Commercial Revitalization District.
The McLean CBC serves as McLean’s “downtown” and is characterized by neighborhood-serving retail uses including shopping centers, automobile service stations, banks and restaurants, as well as office buildings and former residences converted to offices or retail establishments. In addition to commercial uses, the CBC is also developed with mid and high-rise multifamily buildings. Townhouses and single-family detached residences are located along the edges of the CBC.
